In loving memory, we share the passing of Marcella “Marcy” Ortiz, a radiant soul who graced the world for 78 years. Marcella, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, departed on December 21, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and enduring love.
Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Marcella's journey was marked by a vibrant spirit and a heart full of compassion. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Luis Martinez and Barbarita Romero Martinez, dear sister Josephine Martinez Brandenburg, and brother Jose Martinez.
Marcella is survived by her siblings Lydia Martinez Dison, Rosita Martinez, Dolores Martinez Manley, Donnie J. Martinez, and Tommy Martinez. Their memories and shared experiences form a testament to the lasting bonds of family that marcella held so dear.
Her nurturing and loving nature extended to her children: Gilbert Ortiz, Felix Ortiz II (Carla), Carmen Lujan, Andrew Ortiz (Jeana), Michael Ortiz (Linda), Lori Ortiz (Derrick), and Joe Ortiz, & her children’s father Felix Ortiz Sr. Her nurturing spirit found expression in the love she showered upon each of them, creating a foundation of warmth and support.
Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Felix Ortiz III, Amanda Ortiz, Ambrose Ortiz, Natasha Lujan (Angel), Martin Ortiz, Abigail Ortiz, Brianna Lujan, Shantel Ortiz, Josiah Ortiz, and numerous cherished great-grandchildren. The laughter and joy shared with each of them brought immense happiness to Marcella.
A public visitation will take place on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 5:00 pm and a Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm, in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of Devargas Funeral Home and Crematory, in Espanola, New Mexico. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday December 29, 2023, at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz with a burial to follow at the Santa Cruz Cemetery.
Marcella Ortiz will be deeply missed, and her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
