MANUEL SALAZAR, JR, 86, a lifetime resident of Velarde passed away peacefully on March 6, 2017 after a lengthy illness with Parkinson’s disease. He was born October 12, 1930 in Blanca, CO. Manuel was preceded in death by his wife Isabelle Gutierrez Salazar; daughter, Angela Salazar Riley; parents, Manuel and Sinforosa Salazar; mother-in-law, Eufrosina Gutierrez. He is survived by his children, Elmer and wife Susie Salazar, of Velarde, John and wife Sylvia Salazar of Velarde, and son-in-law Chris Riley of Boulder, CO survive Manuel. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Salazar of Española, Rosie Salazar of Española and Bryan Salazar of Albuquerque. Paden, Taylor and Trey Riley of Boulder, CO, Ashten Salazar and fiancée Chris Armijo of Española and Corporal Curtis Salazar, USMC of Camp Pendleton, CA. Great grandchildren, Sofia Salazar, Amberlyn Trambley and Kristen Armijo. His brothers also survive him: Joe Salazar and wife Celia, Alex Salazar, Henry Salazar and wife June, Raymond Salazar and wife Evila and sister, Lyda Byers, and brother-in-law Wilfred Gutierrez and wife Cleo. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde with a burial to follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Velarde. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Michael, Rosie and Bryan Salazar, Paden, Taylor and Trey Riley, Ashten and Curtis Salazar. Honorary pallbearers will be his great grandchildren, Sofia, Amberlyn and Kristin.
