Manuel Martinez

Manuel M. Martinez , 84, a resident of Santa Cruz, joined the love of his life Mercedes on Sunday, April 14, 2019.  Manuel was born on October 3, 1934 to Jose Guadalupe Martinez and Louisa Romero Martinez. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mercedes Martinez; brothers, Lupe & Erminio; sisters, Louisa, Teresa & Rosanna and infant son, Patrick.

Manuel was raised in Española where he met and married the love of his life Mercedes Alcares. They were married for 50 years and raised seven children.  Manuel graduated from Española High School and was a proud Hornet. He retired from Los Alamos Medical Center after 37 years and spent his retirement years enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Manuel is survived by his sisters, Rosario Fiorillo and Gloria Maestas; 4 sons, Herman Alcares, Marcial Martinez (Rosemarie), Sal Martinez (Marcella), and Adam Martinez (Karen); 3 daughters, Wanda Sena (Louie), Lina Martinez of the home, Stephanie Vasquez (Ruben), 15 grandchildren & 13 great-grandchildren.

Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory with a Devotional Service to start at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley View United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Loma Vista Cemetery in Alcalde. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Marcial Martinez, Eric Martinez, Seth Martinez, Avel Martinez, Anthony Martinez and Nathan Vasquez.  The family of Manuel M. Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved on to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
