Manuel Valdez, Jr., 84, a resident of Española, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2014 following a lengthy illness. Manuel was employed as a truck driver for many years. He also was employed by the Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Department. Manuel was preceded in death by his wife Dulce T. “Candie” Valdez; parents, Manuel Sr. and Delidia Valdez; brother, Pastor Elias Valdez; sisters, Bertha Esquibel, Susie Martinez, and Estella Valdez; father and mother-in-law, Juan and Maria Braublia Trujillo; brothers-in-law, Mike Archuleta, Phil, Adrian, and Gilbert Trujillo, sisters-in-law, Nora Voight and Tonie Trujillo. Mr. Valdez is survived by his children, Leo and Rosabelle Valdez, Pearl Vigil and Louie Maestas, George and Alexis Valdez, Donald and Teresa Valdez, Phillip and Janice Valdez, Mark and Corina Vigil, and Perry and Mariadele Vigil; brothers, Robert and Ernestine Valdez and Levi and Angie Valdez; sisters, Alice Martinez, Betty and Tomas Duran, Evila Rivera and Pula Martinez; brothers-in-law, Armando and Teresa Trujillo, Joe Trujillo and Bill Voight; sister-in-law, Christy Trujillo; 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; a special friend, Vicente Enriquez and numerous relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a Devotional service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. also in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial to follow at the Apostolic Cemetery in Velarde with the following serving the family as pallbearers, Mark and Perry Vigil, Candie Martinez, Jonathan, Iona, Francisco, Julien and Estevan Valdez. Honorary pallbearers named are his 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. The family of Manuel Valdez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
