Lucille Ortiz, 68, a resident of Chimayo, passed away of a lengthy illness on Monday, April 21, 2014. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Y. and Carmelita Martinez; parents-in-law, Esquipula and Anita Ortiz; brother, Amado Martinez; sister, Veronica Trujillo; brothers and sisters-in-law, Arsenio Romero and Florentino Trujillo and Gilbert and Carolina Ortiz; nephews, Dickie and Sammy Ortiz and Steven Martinez. Mrs. Ortiz was a private school bus contractor and driver for the Española Public School District for 32 years. She loved to cook, clean and gardening, and nurture her beautiful flowers. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Leroy J. Ortiz of Chimayo, two sons, Lenny Ortiz and wife Janice and Richard Ortiz and companion Lorena; sisters, Rose Romero, Viola Romero, Connie Martinez and husband David, Rita Martinez and husband Edward, Virginia Duran all of Chimayo, Lorraine Salazar and husband Victor of Santa Cruz, Berlinda Maestas and husband Mario of La Puebla; brothers, Manuel Martinez and wife Lourdes, Albert Martinez and wife Patsy; sister-in-law, Helen Martinez; special granddaughter, Letisha Ortiz; grandson, Richard Junior Ortiz, other grandchildren, Jenessa Ortiz, Isabella Rodriguez, Andrea Gallegos, Jessica De La Torre and Sabrina Vigil all of Chimayo and many special nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at Nuestra Señora de Dolores Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers, Chuck, Tim and Alex Martinez, Manuel Bustos, Jr., Barney Trujillo, and Henry Hank Romero. Honorary pallbearers named are her sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. The family of Lucille Ortiz has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
