Luciana - Age 92 - Los Alamos Lucero

On January 23, 2013, at the age of 92, Luciana Lucero, our kind and gentle mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away. To her family, she was our angel on earth. She was born at home in Villanueva, New Mexico on November 20, 1920 to Porfirio Gallegos and Respicia Gonzales Gallegos. After celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary, her loving husband, Justo Lucero, preceded her in death four years ago. Also preceding her in death is her son, Paul Lucero; brothers: Fortunato Gallegos, Piedad Gallegos and John Gallegos; and sisters: Cipriana Galiz and Tillie Brownell. She attended Loretto Academy in Santa Fe, New Mexico during high school years. During World War II, she unselfishly went to Portland Oregon to assist in the building of war ships as welder. Due to asbestos exposure there, she dealt with lung scarring and breathing difficulties the rest of her life. She had a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She assisted her husband in their ranching business in an industrious fashion. She was the best of homemakers. She had a generous spirit when it came to her family and friends. No one ever left her home without being offered a meal or refreshment. Her most joyful days were when she was able to serve 30 to 40 family members and friends. Since her farm and ranch in Villanueva was a favorite for weekend visits or summer vacations, this happened frequently. She passed along her love of God to her children and grandchildren, as she lived out her life; she diligently practiced her Catholic faith. She was a long standing member of the Altar and Rosary Society of the Our Lady of Guadalupe in Villanueva. She was a Girl Scout Leader for her daughter’s troop. She endured many physical problems in her lifetime. She was a cancer survivor several times over, starting at age 29 and ending at age 85. She was also the victim of a pedestrian auto accident that broke her pelvic girdle on both sides. Blind from Macular Degeneration and left unable to eat, swallow or speak by a stroke over a year ago, she never once complained about her chronic pain or inabilities; she merely compensated and kept living. Now she is whole. Luciana is survived by her son, Ronald Lucero and his wife, Cheryl and her daughter, Karla Rose; grandchildren: Scott Lucero, Lori Saiz and husband Marshall, Trevor Lucero and Pilar, Elizabeth Clayton and husband Kip, Paul Ann Lucero, Derrick Cooke, Shanon Cooke-Click and husband Jacob; and great grandchildren: Jesika LeShae Davis, Grant David Cooke, Ashley Taylor Cooke, Shanon Aleshia Cooke, Landon Degore Cooke, Gabriel Oscar Saiz, Ethan Ronald Saiz, Alexander Justo Saiz, Maddux Wayne Click, Solea Rose Lucero, and Cota James Click; and numerous other loving relatives and friends. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. Burial will follow at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Mr. Trevor Lucero, Scott Lucero, Marshall Saiz, Derrick Cooke, Kip Clayton and Jim Nuttall, Paul Sparks, Brian Hollander, Robert Keown, Gary Gallegos and Servando Lucero.
