Lucas Mel Herrera, age 24, a resident of La Puebla, N.M. passed away on July 1st, 2024. Born in Santa Fe, N.M. on February 17, 2000.

Lucas was the youngest of three boys. He graduated from Espanola Valley High School in 2018. He performed various occupations being a car hop at Sonic, and a pipefitter at Los Alamos National Laboratory, supporting maintenance and construction operations. He was considered a valuable asset, a blessing to his team and to all who worked with him. He enjoyed playing video games, going out to eat, and spending time with his German Shepard (Zoey). He taught her various tricks, they would go fishing together, and on adventures throughout New Mexico. Lucas exercised regularly, liked BBQing on the grill, watching movies, and spending time with his friends. He was fascinated with entrepreneurship and experimented with multiple projects, and business management ideas. He acquired Bees, and the necessary equipment to harvest his own honey. Occasionally he would perform spray paintings of astronomical landscapes, and play the guitar of his favorite songs. He had many talents, skills, and the willingness to learn and take on new challenges.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Antonio and Asencion Herrera, Don and Andrellita Espinoza, Uncle Billy Herrera Sr. (Lourdes), Aunt Lupe Garcia, and Cousin Billy Herrera Jr.

Lucas is survived by his parents Mel and Yolanda Herrera of La Puebla, brothers Matthew and Andy Herrera of La Puebla.  Uncle James Herrera (Fran) of Leavenworth Kansas, Uncle Gabriel Espinoza, (Peggy) of La Puebla, Aunt Angela Ortiz (Steven Sr.) of El Llano. Cousins Jerome Herrera, (Shayla), Marquita Herrera, Mark Herrera, Janet Garcia and Sandra Garcia, Jesus Espinoza, Steven Ortiz Jr. (Danielle), Nicholas Espinoza, Daniel Ortiz (Bridget), Angel Hanrahan (Michael), and Megan Espinoza.  Dear friends Jade, Guillmer, Jose, and Sonya.

Funeral services will be held on Friday July 12, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Valley Bible Baptist Church, in Arroyo Seco (56 Arroyo Seco Cir, Española, NM 87532). The burial will take place at La Puebla Cemetery (63 Placita Rd, Española, NM 87532), immediately after the church service.
