LOYOLA S. QUINTANA, 76, a lifelong resident of Los Luceros, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2013 after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mercedes “Marcie” Quintana; parents, Maximilliano and Mercedes Martinez; brothers, Efren and Ben Martinez; raised like a brother, Peter Martinez; nephew and God-son, Tim Martinez; niece Pamela Maestas; father-in-law, Merced Quintana; sister-in-law, Angelina Torres; brothers-in-law, Sam Gallegos, Alberto Torres, and Andres Maestas. Loyola will be remembered for her enduring faith in God, warm heart, her sense of humor, and the way she touched the hearts of those around her. She was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren. She worked many happy years at the former JW Owens Department Store, where she developed many long-term friendships. She was a longtime member of the Alter Rosary Society and of the Living Waters Prayer Group, a Eucharistic Minister and a Catechist all at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Among other things, Loyola loved to cook, read, and care for her family. She will be deeply missed by those that knew her. Mrs. Quintana is survived by her loving and caring husband of 57 years, Leo G. Quintana; three children, Sandra V. Silva and husband Richard of Denver, CO, Leonard R. Quintana and wife Beverly and James Quintana all of Los Luceros; sister, Nora Gallegos; raised like a sister, Gloria Quintana of Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN; brothers, Cip Martinez and wife Charlotte, Max Martinez and wife Evangeline and Robert Martinez and wife Marcella; special niece, Elizabeth Romero all of Los Luceros; she was a loving grandmother to nine grandchildren, Ryan Silva and wife Stephanie, Dana Silva, Kathryn, Anndria, Santana, Christian, Jaylen, and Santiago Quintana, and Michayla Salazar; mother-in-law, Petrita Quintana; sisters-in-law, Priscilla Quintana, Consuelo Apodaca and husband Joe, Sally Maestas, Viola Maestas and husband Roy, Carmen Garcia and husband Toby, Roberta Manzanares and husband Patrick, Alice Martinez and Angelina Martinez; brother-in-law, Joe G. Quintana and numerous nieces, nephews, and God-children. A rosary will be recited on Monday, June 17 at 7:00 pm. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 18 at 10:00 am. also at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial will follow at the La Villita Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Andy Maestas, Gilbert Maestas (God-son), Raymond Maestas (God-son), Joseph Martinez, Bobby Martinez, and Leah Gallegos. Honorary pallbearers are her God-children, John Torres, Lisa Mora, and Antonietta Davis; special friend to the family Steve Salazar; and all her nieces and nephews. The family of Loyola Quintana has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
