LOIDA R. ORTIZ, 83, a resident of Chimayo, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; parents, Juan de Dios and Frankie Romero; grandson, Juanito Martinez; and brother, Arturo Romero. Loida was born October 17, 1931 in El Valle, NM she attended elementary school in El Valle, then went on to Allison, James, and graduated from Menaul in Albuquerque. Loida pursued a nursing career while working as an x-ray technician at the Espanola Hospital. During this time she crossed paths with her classmate Herman Ortiz Jr. they fell in love married and started a family. They made their home in Chimayo, where she was a homemaker. She later was employed at the Rancho de Chimayo where she worked for 23 years. Loida was an excellent cook, always wanted to feed everyone. She loved gardening from vegetation, transplanting, trees to her beautiful flowers which she took great pride in. After retirement she and her husband helped raise their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoying retirement and time together until her husband passed. Loida was dearly loved and her memory will be forever cherished. Mrs. Ortiz is survived by her children, Celina Vigil, Lloyd Ortiz, Doris Vigil, Timmy Ortiz, and companion Sylvia Baca, Juan Ortiz, and Sandra Ortiz, granddaughter raised like a daughter, Jenna Ortiz, sisters Esther Romero, Martha Parr; brother, Gerson Romero; grandchildren, Michael Vigil, Brianah Gallegos, Andres, and Matthew Vigil, Chris, and Alisha Baca, Ashley Martinez, Isaiah Ortiz, and Elijah Valdez, and 14 great grandchildren; a special friend Edna Duran, as well as other loving relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 6:00p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a devotional service to follow at 7:00p.m. Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, graveside services will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband. Serving the family as pallbearers are Chris Baca, Andres Vigil, Matthew Vigil, Isaiah Ortiz, Ivan Archuleta, and Gary Duran. The family of Loida R. Ortiz has entrusted the care of their beloved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
