Linda B. Barela

Linda B. Barela, 60, of Chimayo, NM and formerly of Truchas, NM, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023. Linda was born on June 2, 1963, and lived her entire life with cerebral palsy confined to a wheelchair. What made Linda special was despite her disability, she never complained or felt sorry for herself. She was always upbeat and talkative. To know Linda was to love Linda. She was outgoing and was loved by all who met her. She had a beautiful smile and contagious laugh that lit up any room she was in. 

She is preceded in death by her stepfather Filimon Romero who raised her as his own, sister Lisa Roybal, aunt Elsie Barela, uncle Dennis Barela, aunt Gloria Barela, uncle Patricio Barela, aunt Caroline Barela, aunt Sabinita Romero, uncle Cipriano Romero and aunt Lorraine Barela.

She is survived by her devoted mother Cruzita Romero of Chimayo and formerly of Truchas, who lovingly cared for Linda for her entire 60 years, brother-in-law Matthew Roybal, who also assisted with her care, and uncle Richard Barela. She is also survived by many cousins, family, and friends.

A special thank you to John and Caroline of Scott’s House and all other Scott’s House staff, and Ambercare Hospice staff for assisting Linda and providing excellent care during her final days.

No services will take place, but we do appreciate your love and support during this difficult time.
