LEVI HERRERA, 80, a resident of La Mesa de Poleo, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Simona Herrera; brothers, Orlando and Marcelino Herrera; parents-in-law, Donaciano and Santana Salazar. Levi was a well known, respected and liked man; who was hard working until the end. All who knew him knew of his amazing sense of humor. He was always ready to help out his neighbors or anyone who called on him for help; he was one of a kind. He lived and worked in Craig, Colorado for one year and 7 years in Twin Falls, Idaho, he then moved to Coyote to work for Duke City Lumber Company in Cuba for 28 years and retired in 1996. Mr. Herrera is survived by his wife of 53 years, Tommie Herrera; children, Levi Herrera, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, Alice Branch of Santa Fe, Ruby Porch(Randy) of Virginia, Vicky Clorinda Alvarado (Michael) of Florida; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; only surviving aunt and uncle, Heraldo and Helen Archuleta of Roy, Utah; brothers, Emilio Herrera (Ambrocia) and Leroy Herrera (Lenora); sisters, Nora Gurule, Ercilia Edwards, Rebecca Kesl, Maria Herrera and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited by the Hermanos de la Morada on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Coyote. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. also at the San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Coyote and will be officiated by Father Dons Onyeke. Burial to follow at the family plot in La Mesa with the following serving as pallbearers, Louis Branch, Christopher Herrera, Levi Porch, Joshua Wilson, Darren Herrera and Marcio Herrera. Honorary pallbearers named are, Levi Curtis Herrera, Amy Vermersch, Anthony Branch, Patrick Branch, Anna Montoya and Delbert Herrera. The family of Levi Herrera has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
