Leroy Montoya a lifelong resident of La Puebla went to his eternal home in Heaven on Thursday, October 30, 2014. Leroy was a very loving, giving, and happy person who loved to be around people. He loved to fish and work in the family garden and always volunteered to clean the community ditches. Leroy was the type of person that became friends with people almost instantly. Leroy was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Montoya; grandparents, Melisendro and Felicitas Montoya; uncles, Evaristo Padilla and Demesio Montoya; aunts, Ascension Herrera and Flora Sanchez. Mr. Montoya is survived by his second mom and aunt, Modesta Padilla who gave up so much to ensure that Leroy was loved and taken care of. Although Leroy was an only child, he had a large family which included many aunts and uncles whom he considered like siblings, Maria Vigil of La Puebla, Manuel Montoya and wife Joan of Chimayo, Eufelia Martinez of Chimayo, Solomon Montoya of Paonia, Colorado, Cande Romero of Santa Cruz, Carmen Vigil of Sombrillo, David Montoya and wife Berna of La Puebla, Joann Vigil and husband Tito of La Puebla and several others who preceded him in death. During Leroy’s final days he was taken care of by Del Corazon Hospice and Ideal Home Health Care. The caretakers and nurses also became part of his extended family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a funeral Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada Church. Burial to follow at the La Puebla Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Dwayne and Benny Vigil, Charles Maestas, Louie Sandoval, Mel Herrera and Raymond Vigil. Honorary pallbearers include Benjie Montoya, Anthony Montoya, Charlie Montoya and all of his other cousins. The family of Leroy Montoya has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
