Leo Gurule

Leo R. Gurule a resident of Espanola, our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, born April 29, 1942 passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on September 7, 2021 after he fought a courageuos battle with cancer. Our father / grandfather was a hardworking man who had a deeply devoted love for his beautiful wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a very humble man that appreciated the simple things in life such as fishing, camping, listening to spanish music, watching basketball & football games and loved going on vacation with his family.

Leo is preceded in death by his parents; Evaristo & Martina Gurule, in-laws; Manuel and Selida Morfin, brother; Abel Gurule, nephews; Paul Gurule, Robert Pacheco, Tommy Rael, and niece; Ida Pacheco.

Leo is survived by his wife of 51 years Fidelia Gurule. They truly had the greatest love story of all time. Together they have two children Geraldine (Billy) and Leonard (Marcella), 10 grandchildren, Lucretia, Abel Jr. (Tiffany), Sherriece, Leonard Jr. Nicholas (Ashlynn), Brandy, David, Angel, Shaquila and A’Isha, 7 great grandchildren, Alexis, Hailey, Serenity, Ayslinn, Logan, Izaiah and Za’Niyah. Goddaughters; Angel Gurule, Tina Marie Lopez, Angela Trujillo and Cherise Martinez, Godsons; Adam Valerio and Benjamin Morfin. Sisters; Mary Jane Rael, Corrine Pacheco, Bernie Salazar and Mary Graham. Brothers; Gilbert Gurule and Presciliano Gurule and a very special uncle "Tio" Modesto Martinez, and numerous Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, other relatives and friends.

Public visitation will begin Monday, September 13, 2021 at 6:00pm in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 11:00am at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers Abel DeVargas Jr., Leonard Gurule Jr., Nicholas Gurule, David Gurule, Adam Valerio and David Lujan. Serving as honorary pallbearers Lucretia DeVargas, Sherriece DeVargas, Brandy Gurule, Alexis DeVargas, Hailey DeVargas, Angel Gurule, Shaquila Gurule, A’Isha Gurule, Serenity Pacheco, Ayslinn DeVargas, Logan DeVargas, Izaiah DeVargas Pacheco and Za’Niyah DeVargas.
