Lawrence - Age 56 - La Villita - Martinez

LAWRENCE MARTINEZ, 56, a resident of La Villita, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 following a lengthily illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Seferino and Pelegrina Martinez; brother, Levi Sandoval, Tito “Jondas” Martinez and Peter Martinez; nephews, Dion and Daniel Torres and niece, Donna Torres. Lawrence loved fishing, cooking and always cleaning. He always took pride in his painting and wanted it to be perfect. He was very faithful to his Green Bay Packers and always taking trips on his motorcycle. In his younger days he was a very talented athlete. He was always wrenching on his 1972 Chevy truck. He liked joking around, relaxing and watching westerns. Mr. Martinez is survived by his children, Valerie Martinez and husband Salomon Mares, Jr., Frances Blea and husband Billy Rivera, Jr., John Paul Martinez and Santana Martinez; sisters, Lillian Martinez, Nancy Torres and husband Danny and Anita Lopez and husband Steve; nephew he raised like a son, Pete Martinez; grandchildren, Santiago Chavez, Dezerae Mares and Auburn Sky Rivera and nieces, Pam Torres and Jenae Lopez and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Alcalde. Burial to follow at La Villita Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Andy Vigil, Jerry Sanchez, Alex Sanchez, Pete Martinez, Billy Rivera, Santiago Chavez, Joseph Martinez and Steve Lopez. The family of Lawrence Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
