Lance Lee Cox, a long time resident of Brookville, Indiana and Valarde New Mexico passed away January 18, 2013 in Velarde. Born June 12, 1934 in Floyd County Virginia to Burman Lee and Nonnie Eller Quesenberry Cox. Lance is survived by his wife Jeanette Vasquez, daughter Andria Lannette Cox Ritchie and her husband Deric, four granddaughters: Jessalyn Marie, and Rachael Lee Relly; Amanda Rayanne and Alexis Cheyenne Ritchie; four sisters: Sharon 'Sherry' Dawson of Utah, Lois Cox Schnabel of Ohio; Barbara Cox Davis and husband Lowell of Colorado; Olivene Cox Hargrave of Arkansas; eleven nephews, and five nieces.A graduate of Earlham College in Indiana, Lance served in the United States Army in Puerto Rico. Lance was a long-term member of the Brookville United Methodist Church and was a leader in his community and state, serving in various state–appointed and volunteer positions. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Velarde with burial to take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. Serving the family as pallbearers will be: Brian, Craig and Eric Schnabel, Timothy and Eric Vásquez and James Relly; honorary pallbearers: Bennie Quesenberry, Darin Hodapp, Robert and David Dawson, Lowell and David Cox. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Franklin County Community Foundation, 527 Main St, Brookville, IN 47012 for a memorial that will be created for scholarships to Earlham College in the name of Lance Cox. The Family of Lance Lee Cox have entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
