KEVIN JAMES MARTINEZ, JR., 23, a resident of Rio Chama, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 5, 2017 following injuries sustained in a car accident. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leonard Lucero; uncle, Juanito Martinez and other grandparents, aunts and uncles. Kevin was born on November 23, 1993 and graduated from Española Valley High School in 2012. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, going for wood, latillas and trapping. He loved being in the mountains with his grandpa, dad and God-father. He enjoyed traveling on his street bike. He adored his God-daughter. He was loved by so many people. He had a wonderful personality, loved to laugh and joke. He made friends everywhere he went and was always so helpful to everyone. He will be missed dearly. Mr. Martinez is survived by his loving parents, Kevin, Sr. and Vickie Martinez; sister, Felicia Martinez; God-daughter, Andalyssa Martinez; paternal grandmother, Eva Martinez; maternal grandparents, Rosie Lucero; maternal great-grandmother, Ernestine Martinez and Theresa Lopez; God-parents, Bradley and Annette Martinez; paternal aunts and uncle, Loretta Rivera (Martin), Sheila Martinez and Ernie Montoya; maternal aunts and uncles, Anthony (Fern) Lucero, Regina (Toby) Martinez, Roxanne Lucero and Sarah Hurtado; special friends, Nina Vigil and Sandy Herrera and many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.  Public visitation will begin on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the San Juan Nepumuceno Catholic Church in El Rito. Burial to follow at the Martinez Family Cemetery in El Rito with the following serving as pallbearers, Bradley Martinez, Martin Rivera, Toby Martinez, Rogelio Garcia, Ernie Montoya, Nathaniel Romero, Anthony Lucero, Leonard Trujillo and Norman Lopez. Honorary pallbearers will be, Justina Martinez, Jessie Lucero, Anthony Bowker, Daylon Garcia. The family of Kevin James Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
