KEVIN PHILLIP MEDINA, 33, a resident of Chimayo, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2010 following a sudden and unexpected illness. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Feliberto “Pepe” Martinez; paternal grandparents, Ricardo Medina and uncle, Phillip Martinez. Kevin studied as an EMT and was a firefighter for the New Mexico State Forestry for many years. Because of his passion of cooking, he studied under Chef Arnauds in New Orleans. He was currently a chef for Christus St. Vincent and past chef at Camel Rock Casino, where some of his recipes are still in use. Mr. Medina is survived by his daughter, Skyy M. Medina of Chimayo; companion of 8 years, Maureen Vigil of El Guique; mother, Viviane Medina of Chimayo; father, Andrew Medina of Chimayo; sister, Andrea Campos and husband Tomas of Chama; maternal grandmother, Yvette “Meme” Martinez of Chimayo; paternal grandmother, Connie Medina of Chimayo; aunts, Catherine Vigil and husband Manuel of La Mesilla and Brenda Romero and husband Wilfred of Chimayo; nieces, Mauricette, Amelie and Jolietoile Campos all of Chama; best friend and cousin, Bryan Romero of San Diego and many other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the Nuestra Señora de Dolores Catholic Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers, Tomas Campos, Manuel Vigil, Wilfred Romero, Bryan Romero, Steven Vigil and Vincent Vigil. The Medina family has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
