Kella M. Maes, 73, a resident of Ohkay Owingeh passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. After 30 years of being an educator she retired from the local school system. She was an active member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, she was dedicated to her faith. Kella loved animals and preparing meals for her family, she was an exceptional cook. She will be missed by all who knew her. Kella was preceded in death by her parents, Liberato and Virginia Montoya; sisters: Anita Dá, Elena Hendricks and Nelli Mirabal; in-laws: Juan Ubaldo and Bernice Maes; aunts: Toni Cruz and Teresita Atencio; sister-in-law, Mary F. Roybal; nephews: Ernest Mirabal Jr., and Tony Dá Kella is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jose U. Maes; sons: Kenneth L. Maes and wife Debbie and Daniel Maes; grandchildren: Jordan and Gabriel Maes, Rochelle, Andrea and Jason Martinez, Leslie Jo Elkins; God-children: PoKwin Mirabal and Arlene Calvert; nieces: Joyce Odell and husband Terry, Janice Parker and husband Robert, Doreen and Michelle Mirabal, Anna Lejuene and husband Michael, Lourdes Nevarez, Bernadette Naranjo, Sandra Gordon, Anita and Abigal Hendricks; nephews: David Roybal and wife Liz, Sam Giron and wife Bonnie, Dennis Giron and Tommy Hendricks; sister-in-law, Josie Giron; numerous other loving relatives & friends. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh with burial to follow at Ohkay Owingeh Catholic Cemetery.
