JULIA MARIA GARCIA , age 86, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 in her home in Española. Julia was born in Canjilon, New Mexico to the late Jose de la Luz and Eufemia Martinez on August 28, 1934. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn (Marlene) Duran; brothers, Lorenzo Martinez, Jose Pedro Martinez, and Jose Reyes Martinez; sister, Casilda Leyba; her grandparents, Pedro and Amada Romero and Manuel and Teodorita Martinez. She was a very loving, caring, funny, mischievous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She enjoyed being around family and friends, many of them whom she considered as her own children and grandchildren, as well as a special Tia Lucilla Romero. She had a heart of gold, always thinking of others, and putting their needs first before hers. She welcomed everyone who went to visit with open arms. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Julia is survived by her husband, Agustine Garcia; children, Beverly Garcia of Espanola, Jose Luz Garcia (John Sanchez) of Albuquerque, Roberta Ortega (Onesimo) of El Duende, Richard Garcia (Celina) of Ojo Caliente, Pedro Garcia (Esther) of Montrose, Colorado, Charlene Gonzales of Espanola, Teodoro Garcia (Pamela) of Espanola, Augustine Garcia (Denise) of Espanola and Augusta Garcia Rose of Murray, Utah; 14 grandchildren, Crystal Duran, Dennis Gonzales (Jennifer), Stacey Gonzales, Isaac Garcia (Chassity), Elias Garcia, Roland Martinez, Erika Ortega, Megan Baca (Josh), Julianna Trujillo, Kayla Dominguez (Jordan), Jacob Garcia (Maddie), Melanie Garcia, Tomas Ortega, and Lucas Garcia; 11 great-grandchildren, Krissalynn and Aaliyah Martinez, Aviana Baca, Eli and Zarah Dominguez, Natalie and Jeremiah Gonzales, Eleanor and Benjamin Garcia; 3 who will be born soon, Caleb Garcia, Theodore Garcia and baby Baca; sisters: Flora Garcia and Sally Montano of Canjilon and Marcella Herrera of Espanola; sister-in-law, Rebecca Martinez of Canjilon. Public visitation will be on Monday, November 9, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Due to COVID restrictions a rosary and mass will be held at a later date. Serving as honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Larry Martinez. The family of Julia Maria Garcia would like to thank her caregiver/daughter, Beverly Garcia, Dr. Mustapha Abouda, Dr. Anthony Sandoval, Dr. Levi Maes, Ambercare Hospice Staff, Penitentes de Canjilon for residing the rosary, and all who made her life so beautiful. The family of Julia Maria Garcia has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
