Juan Lorenzo - age 66 - Ojo Caliente Martinez

Juan Lorenzo Martinez, 66, a resident of Ojo Caliente, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014 following a lengthy illness. Juan was preceded in death by his father, Jose B. Martinez and stepson, Kenneth S. Lucero, Juan L. Martinez was employed for ten years by the New Jersey Zinc CO Gilman Mines, and ten years for the Vail P.O. Mail Carrier. Juan served with the US Army, and received multiple Medals, to include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze, Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device in 1960, Combat Infantry Man Badge (1st award), Purple Heart, one O/S Bar, Marksman (Rifle M- 14 and Pistol 45) expert (Rifle N-16). Juan was also a Bronco Fan. Juan is survived by his loving wife who cared for him throughout the years, Charlotte Martinez; mother, Eufelia Martinez; daughters, Maria and Lori; 5 grandchildren; step-sons, Benny Lucero (Melinda), Sammy Lucero (Marcella), step-daughters, Yvonne Herrera (Rudy), Colleen Lopez (Ted), Marlena Diaz (Michael); sisters, Tina Sisneros (Walter), Tita Gurule (Joe), Gloria Valdez, Elevi (deceased) and JoAnn Huot; brothers, Tino Martinez (Velma), Alonzo Martinez (Josefa), Ben Martinez (Balvina); aunts and uncles, Roberto Montoya (Eppie), Rufinita Clokey, Nestorita Montoya and many other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a devotional service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a burial to follow at 11:15 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers, Michael Martinez, Sr., Randy Martinez, Walter Valdez, Saturnino Martinez, John Valdez, Steven Gurule, Freddie Martinez and Bryan Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be, Chris and Gregory Martinez. The family of Juan Lorenzo Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.\r\n \r\n
