Juanita Casados Martinez, 92, a resident of El Guique, New Mexico passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 and went to meet our Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rosendo Martine; her parents, Pedro and Agustinita Casados; her brothers: Antonio (Stella), Roberto and Pete; sisters: Eloise Crum (Don), Virginia Maxwell (Ben), Mercy Rivera (Louis); brother-in-law, Sam Wood and in-laws, Francisco and Romana Martinez, brothers-in law: Eloy (Anna), Arquin, Amado (Ermelinda), Nicholas (Bernadita), Aneseto (Viola), Jose; sisters-in-law: Amelia Martinez, Tonita Herrera (Sisto), Rafelita Martinez (Antonio), Simmie (Apolinar) and Lina Archuleta (Max).\r\nShe is survived by her children: son Ross E Martinez Jr. and wife Martha of Arlington, Texas, Susan Herrera and husband Floyd of Albuquerque, New Mexico, four grandchildren, JoLynn Muraida (Gerard), Maria Miller (Rod), Jeffrey Martinez (Barbara), and Jennifer Hernandez (Michael) and eight great grandchildren, Susan Marie, Caroline Terese, Madeline Louise, Megan Nicole, Lauren Alyssa, Jonathan Nicholas, Ava Grace and Jacob Michael. She is also survived by her sisters Leona Chandler and husband Glen of Maple Valley, Washington, Marina Wood of Panama City, Florida, sister in law Juanita Casados of El Guique, a close niece Connie Wolf of Albuquerque and many other nieces and nephews.\r\nMrs. Martinez was born in El Guique on June 24, 1920 (el día de San Juan). She was a very hard worker at home, in the ranch and at her job with the Española School District. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Her specialties were making the best biscochitos, tamales and sopa. For many years she grew chile and made more than one hundred red chile strings.\r\nAt the Española School District she worked as the head cook for the San Juan School Cafeteria for 30 years and then moved to the Central Office and continued working for all the District cafeterias working for another 9 years. She always wanted for the students to have excellent food.\r\nHer passion in life was to work hard on all she undertook. She touched many lives both at home and in the Española School District and will be missed by all who knew her.\r\nThe family would like to thank the owners and staff from Unlimited Care where she spent her last few years.\r\n Public visitation will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh. Burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 9:45 a.m. with the following serving the family as pallbearers: Gerard Muraida, Jeffrey Martinez, Jonathan Martinez, Peter Casados, Lino Martinez, Ralph Martinez and Michael Hernandez.
