Juan Estevan Arellano, 67, a resident of Embudo, New Mexico passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2014. He was preceded in death by his mother, Celia Archuleta Arellano, Father, Adolfo Arellano; Adopted parents Lucia and Carlos Arellano; and brother Wilbert Arellano.\r\n \r\nHe is survived by his wife Elena Arellano; Daughter, Unica Martinez and husband Matthew; grandsons Mario, Fabian, Diego and Alonzo Martinez; Sons, Javier Arellano; granddaughters Mireya and Amaris Arellano, and Carlos Arellano and companion Norma. He is also survived by his brothers, Adolfo Arellano and wife Faye, Bialquin Arellano and wife Jane, Nelson Arellano and wife Victoria, Arnold Arellano and wife Maria, Sisters Alice Arellano, Tommie Mercer and husband Riley, Elise Kinsey and husband David, Sally Finney and husband Carl; Mother-in-Law, Anita Martinez; Two very dear friends of his that he considered as his little sisters, Joyce Guerin and Liddie Martinez; daughter-in-law, Candie Arellano and many nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.\r\n Estevan was an acequia advocate and keeper of northern New Mexico culture and was a well-known and respected scholar of acequia culture and traditions. He will be greatly missed. The family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt appreciation your kind expression of sympathy during this sad and difficult time, especially to his brothers and sisters, and for all your prayers, food, flowers and cards. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory.
