Juan A. Mondragon A.K.A (Apache) of upper Ojito and a former resident of Red Cliff C.O passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo Mondragon and Eliseria Chacon; two brothers, Jose A. Mondragon and Florencio Mondragon; three sisters, Adelina Mondragon who died as a baby, Clorinda Esquibel and Maria (Lola) Lopez. He is survived by his wife of many years, Minnie Mondragon; 7 children; one adopted grandson and a granddaughter he raised as a daughter, 18 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Benina (John) Rodriguez of Arizona and several nieces and nephews. He was raised in Chacon, New Mexico with the Vasquez family. He was a loving father, grandfather and Tio. He loved going for wood, being in the outdoors, fishing and hunting but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Public visitation will begin on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Peñasco. Burial to follow at the Chamisal Cemetery.  The family of Juan A. Mondragon has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory of the Espanola Valley.
