Juan F. Giron

Juan F. Giron, age 76 lifelong resident of La Madera, NM, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 20, 2023. 

Juan was preceded in death by his parents Andalesmo and Neomi Giron; his sisters Beltha Giron and Ella Ortiz; brother-in-law Frank Ortiz; great niece Amy Ortiz. 

Juan is survived by his brother Isaac and his sister-in-law Amelia of La Madera, NM; nephews Jesusito “Andy” Giron of Dallas, TX, Frank Ortiz Jr. (wife) Lourdes, Melvin Ortiz (wife) Rita.  niece, Neomi Giron also of La Madera, NM; great nephew's and nieces-Joy Sanchez and family, Rene Mercure and family, Melvin Ortiz Jr., and family and Francisco Ortiz family.

Juan retired from Mesa Vista Consolidated Schools, where he worked as a bus driver for over 20 years. When not driving the school bus, Juan spent his time checking on his cattle, small flock of sheep and planting his annual vegetable garden.  Once Juan was finished tending to his livestock, he would venture out fishing or hunting depending on the season.  Juan enjoyed his time in nature, he would get up early in the morning and drive to the forest and check on his cattle. He would get back after his trip and tell stories of the elk and deer he saw while checking on the cattle.  Juan would pride himself in growing the “best” melons and corn in La Madera, and he would never let you forget how great his produce was. Juan also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and sharing the stories of the wildlife he saw while out and about.  Juan was a member of the local cattle association along with mayordomo of the acequias that provided water to his farmland.

On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, a Public Visitation will be at 9:30 am, Rosary at 10:00 am, and  a Mass of Christian Burial o follow at 11:00 am at the Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe Catholic Church in La Madera, NM.   Burial  to follow at the La Madera Catholic Cemetery. A memorial reception to follow at the Owl Peak Cafe and Mill in La Madera.  

Serving as Pallbearer's are Dennis Valdez, Gilbert Sandoval, Toby Chacon, Melvin Ortiz Jr. and Lucas Sanchez.
