Jovita Serrano-Shook

Born Nov. 22, 1943 – Oct. 9, 2018

On Oct. 9th 2018 our adoring mother Jovita’s soul was carried on Angel’s wings into Our Heavenly Fathers arms. In her final days she was as peace and comfortable surrounded by her children, brothers, sisters and friends.

Jovita was born in Zacatecas, Mexico working her fathers’ fields until she migrated with her family to the USA in 1950. Jovita worked as a waitress in Santa Fe NM for many years. While working one day she met a tall handsome blue-eyed man whom she would later marry and celebrate 48 years together.  People may remember her while working with the generous family Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Gee owners of Long Fong Café in the early 70’s.  Jovita’s extended family kept her busy with birthdays, weddings and joyous celebrations throughout her life. While socializing at events you would always hear her singing or on the dance floor the entire evening.  Later retiring from Skaggs (Sav-On) after 30 years mother was most comfortable in the fine adobe home built by her husband.

Jovita will be remembered as a beautiful and committed wife, doting mother an independent, high-spirited woman full of life, love and laughter always quick with a joke. Her generous and kindness shined when it came to her familia she loved each and every one of them and would always extend a hand if needed.  Her many friends, family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will surely miss her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Shook, parents, Mr. Espiridion & Beatrice Serrano and sister, Rita. She is survived by her children, Joseph Shook, Lisa Chavez (Patrick), Jimmy (Antoinette). Her loving sisters, Magdalene Trujillo (Bill), Marylou Montoya, Carmela Gonzales (Frank), Mary Maldonado (Carlos); caring brothers, Martin Serrano, Pete, Joe (Gloria), Reuben, Gilbert and Marcos (Anna); grandchildren, Eric Martinez, Marisa Villanueva, Michael Vigil, Miranda Chavez and Alexandra Ruiz (Martin); great-grandchildren, Bentley, Kaileylyn, Delaineyrae, Colton Gray.
