Jose "Tony" Valdez

Tony Jose Valdez, 82 of Nambe, NM was called home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. Tony is proceeded in death by his parents Valentin & Eva Valdez; in-laws Genaro & Antonia Terrazas; beloved son Valentin; siblings Maria Espinosa (Luben), Benito (Grace), and Michael. Brother in-laws Andy Sanchez, Lucas Duran, Jose Lujan, and Ramon Terrazas. Sister- in-laws Lucy Salazar (Gilbert) and Mary Tony (John).

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Tessie, daughter Margaret Sargent (Chris), granddaughters Melissa Ortiz (Andrew) and Mindy Gray (Terrance), 4 great grandchildren Alexis, Mariah, Izabella, and Alejandro. Siblings Lola Tafoya (Joe), Ermelinda Lujan, Mela Sanchez, Corrina Ortiz (Joe), Felia Duran, Dorreta Rodriguez.  Sister- in-law Terry Valdez.  As well as numerous nephews, nieces, and godchildren.  A special Godson Michael Romero.

Tony worked many careers, including serving in the NM National Guard, the City of Santa Fe, Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Teamster, and his most memorable career was serving his community as a milk man (El Lechero) for the Rancho de las Lagunas.

Tony was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Tony loved life and making everyone around him laugh with his off the wall humor.  He loved his Spanish music, cooking, camping, and hauling wood. Tony touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.

Serving their grandpa as pallbearers will be Melissa and Mindy. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren Alexis, Mariah, Izabella, and Alejandro.

The family would also like to thank all the nurses and staff at Sombrillo Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and ADDUS Homecare for all the care and attention they provided for Tony. Special thank you to Sarah Summerlin for all her support and help with Tony.

A rosary will take place on Wednesday August 24, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. in the Nambe Catholic Church and a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 9:30 a.m. at Nambe Catholic Church and burial to follow at the Nambe Cemetery.
