Josephine Myrtle Carney Dalrymple, 96, a longtime resident of Espanola died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Espanola Presbyterian Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years, Keith Albert Dalrymple; her son, Keith Dalrymple Jr., three siblings, Carrie, Donald and Delmo Carney. She was born October 28, 1917 in Ridgeway, Elk, Pennsylvania to Thomas Joseph Carney and Mary Myrtle Riley. She was the oldest of four children. As a young woman she trained to be a nurse. Although she didn't complete the training she met her husband, Keith Albert Dalrymple, while assisting in a partial amputation of his thumb. They were married on 18 September 1937 in Niobe, New York. She lived through the Great Depression and World War II. During the war, she lived in Los Alamos, New Mexico while her husband worked on the Manhattan Project. She loved telling stories of her time there and was proud of her contribution to the war effort. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed participating.\r\nShe is survived by her two grandchildren, Debora Kay Dalrymple Merrell (Steve) of California City, California, Keith Roy Dalrymple (Lynne) of Lyden, New Mexico; six great-grandchildren, Stephen, Jackie (Abbott), Samuel and Debora (DK) (Shreeve) Merrell, Keith and William Dalrymple. She has 9 great great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sharon Dalrymple.\r\nA service will be held in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 12:00 p.m., with a burial to follow at the Sandia Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Albuquerque.
