Josephine Eva Cortez

Josephine Eva Cortez, 73, born on January 23, 1950, to Ernest Rodolfo and Edith Garcia in Alamogordo New Mexico. Josephine passed away at home on October 2, 2023.

Josephine was married to her late husband Charles Cortez for over 40 years. Preceded in death by  Josephine’s parents Ernest Rodolfo and Edith; brother Tommy Garcia; mother and father-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Cortez; and bother-in-law Alex Cortez.

Josephine is survived by her son Christopher and daughter-in-law Sonya Cortez; her siblings Lina, Ernest, Betty, Eddie, (Suzanne) and Sam Garcia, along with numerous extended family and friends.

Josephine is a graduate of the University of New Mexico and was a teacher for many years at Sombrillo Elementary School.

A mass will be held on Monday October 23, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. A rosary will follow at 11:30 a.m. A reception will take place at Sacred Heart Parish Hall in Espanola, NM following the rosary.
