Joseph A. Maestas (72) peacefully passed to his Eternal Home, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 19, 2022.
He was born on June 25, 1950, to Jose de la Cruz and Antonia E. Maestas. He attended Highlands University where he met the love of his life and future wife, Diane J. Maestas. They were married for 48 years and raised two loving daughters. Joseph loved serving his community and was especially proud of the years he spent coaching baseball and supporting youth and senior citizens while working as the Director of Recreation/Senior Center for the City of Española. He also cherished the time he spent serving as a lector at Sacred Heart Parish and being a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Joseph was a sincere, kind, and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He had a way of making people smile, laugh and feel special. He loved sports, fishing and camping and was truly happy when surrounded by family and friends. He adored his grandchildren and was their biggest fan and supporter.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Jose de la Cruz and Antonia E. Maestas; father-in-law, Richard Rudolph; sisters, Maria Maestas, Augie Mendoza and Mary Maestas; brothers, Joe Maestas, Mark Maestas and Leroy Garcia; brothers-in law, Gordon Kam and Mike Wester; nephews, Robert Maestas, Gino Mendoza, Tim Martinez, Patrick Jenkins, David Schmitz and Mark Martinez (Godson).
He is survived by his loving wife, Diane J. Maestas; beloved daughters, Felicia Maestas (Amery Martinez) and Vanessa (Nestor) Trujillo; grandchildren, Ashlynn Trujillo and Antonio Trujillo; mother-in-law, Madeline Rudolph; sisters, Diana Maestas, Marcella (Robert) Martinez and Edna Kam; brother, Frank C. (Diane) Maestas, sisters-in-law, Doris (Bruce) Jenkins, Dorothy Wester, Rose Garcia and Sue Maestas; brother-in-law, David (Tessa) Rudolph; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all family, dear friends, neighbors and health care providers for your prayers, generosity, kindness and heartfelt support.
Services will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Sacred Heart Parish with a Rosary at 11:30am, mass at 12 noon, followed by a burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery and meal at Sacred Heart Parish Hall.
