Joseph "Jojo" L. Gurule

Joseph "Jojo" L. Gurule, age 32, of Penasco, NM, passed away on October 2, 2023. He was born on March 2, 1991, to Joe and Sandra Gurule in Santa Fe, NM, and graduated from Penasco High School in 2009.

As a child, he was very passionate about sports, specifically basketball. His love for basketball eventually led to his decision to pursue a Physical Fitness degree at Carrington College in Albuquerque, NM, where he graduated in 2011.  Joseph was currently employed by North Central Solid Waste where he greatly enjoyed his last days with coworkers and truck driving. 

Joseph is preceded in death by grandparents Jose and Alice Cordova, grandfather Orlando Gurule, great-grandfather Querino Gurule, great-grandparents Felix and Sinforosa Joseph, great-grandparents Eliseo and Beroniz Ortega. Uncle Danny Esquibel, and Cousin Nevaeh Cordova.

He is survived by parents Joe and Sandra Gurule, children Josiah Gurule and Alyssa Rodriguez, siblings Alicia Cordova and Joshua Gurule, nephew Brayden Hamilton, grandparents Viola and Reuben Salazar, uncles and aunts Orlando Gurule (Linda), Lee Cordova (Jacqueline), Julie Gurule, Madrina Matilda Gonzales, Cousins Felix, Alexis (Albert), Danny, Isaiah, Mylee, Noah and many other relatives.

A public visitation will begin on October 11, 2023, at 5:00 pm, in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home and a Memorial Service will follow at 6:00 pm. A rosary will be on October 12, 2023, at San Antonio de Padua in Penasco at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Rio Lucio Cemetery. Reception to follow burial.  All welcome to celebrate his life!

Serving as Pallbearer are Lee Cordova, Orlando Gurule Jr., Reuben Salazar, Danny Esquibel, Felix Gurule, Brayden Hamilton, Albert Martinez, Brandon Gurule, Clarence Vigil and Chris Kedge.
