Jose Margarito Martinez, 82 , a lifetime Chama, New Mexico resident passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 8:10 a.m. in Coolidge, Arizona, where he was living for the past 4 months. Jose was born on April 11, 1930 to Andrea (Romero) Martinez and Julian Martinez both from Chama, New Mexico. He served in the United States Army Air Force 3415th assembly squadron in 1946. Military awards and medals includes: Victory Medal, Army of Operation Medal with Japan clasp. He retired from the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad Train in Chama, as a night watchman for 22 years. He enjoyed giving people a helping hand. Jose was preceded in death by his brother, Gilbert Martinez (Chama), and his eldest son, Frederick Paul Martinez (Utah). He is survived by his daughters: Josie (Oscar) Dominguez of Coolidge, AZ, Margaret Tucker of Sandy, Utah; sister, Adella Martinez of Chama; brother, Jose Leroy Martinez of Vallejos, CA; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; including various nieces and nephews; numerous other loving relatives & friends. Memorial service will be celebrated on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with burial to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
