Jose Leo Age - 100 - Española Ortiz

JOSE LEO ORTIZ, 100, a resident of Española, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Ortiz; parents, Bartolo and Clarita Ortiz; brothers, Benito, Phillip and Amarante; sisters, Pilar and Pita Garcia. Jose was a veteran of WWII stationed in Hawaii, Philippines and Saipan Island in the pacific. He worked for 36 years and retiring from the US Forest Service. Mr. Ortiz is survived by his daughter, Rose Linda Montoya; son, Eddie Padilla and wife Flora; special niece, Geri Ramirez; sister, Rose Manzanares; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española. Burial to follow at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Jason, Toby and Andres Montoya, Chris, Edward and Ben Padilla and Leonard Herrera.
