Jose “Joseph” Gilbert Valerio, 77, a resident of Espanola, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012 after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents; Jose and Fidelia Valerio, wife; Mary Alice Valerio, son; Gilbert James Valerio, nephew; Jonathan Raymond Valerio; brother in law, Luis Gallegos and long time family friend, Dave Mauer. Gilbert graduated high school from Maxwell High School in 1952 and then earned an Associates Degree in Pueblo, Colorado. He then served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. Worked in the NM Highway Department then worked for 25 years with ZH & WA Lowdermilk Construction out of Espanola and worked the last 25 years for the Espanola Transit Mix. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, and an avid bowler. Gilbert will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his children; Franklin Michael Valerio of Las Vegas, NV, Patrick Phillip Valerio of Espanola, Melissa Ann Valerio-Herrera of Fort Worth, TX., brother; Robert Orlando Valerio, wife Julie, of Raton, NM. sister; Alice Stewart of Albuquerque, NM. brother; Pedro Pete Valerio and companion Margaret Peggy Solano of Amarillo, TX. brother; Raymond James Valerio of Albuquerque, NM. brother; Charles Manuel Valerio and wife Valorie of Raton, NM. sister; Christine Hayoz and husband Bill, of Mosquero, NM and sister; Juanita Marie Angeli and husband Tom of Raton, NM. Grandchildren; Lucas Aaron Herrera, Jerod Joseph Herrera, Riley Allison Herrera, Jason Harold Martinez and companion Leann Valdez and Aujoli Cheri Martinez. 4 Great-Grandchildren; brother and sister in laws; Beatrice Gallegos of Irving, TX, Dora Vigil and husband, Arthur of Raton, NM and Sadie Piper of Raton, NM. Plus many other numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. Public visitation will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with a rosary to be recited at 8:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial will follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Bobby, Pete, Jimmy and Charlie Valerio, Nicolas Hayoz, Johnny Vigil, Orlando Valerio and Jason Martinez. Serving as honorary pallbearers; The Espanola Transit Mix Employees, Lucas and Jerod Herrera, William Hayoz, James Angeli.
