Jose (Joe) Gallegos

JOSE (JOE) P. GALLEGOS, 88, a resident of La Villita, formerly from Jaconita, went to be with our Lord peacefully on Saturday, June 25, 2016, after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Estanislado and Concepcion Gallegos; brothers, Meliton, Trinidad and Augustiniano, sisters, Ramona, Emelina, Eutimia and Maria. Mr. Gallegos served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked in the Shipyards in California, at Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratory. He belonged to the Carpenters Union.  He enjoyed fishing, horse races, picking pinion and eating empanadas and bischocitos. Mr. Gallegos is survived by the love of his life of 54 years, Flora Herrera of La Villita; her son, David Herrera, daughter, Sylvia Herrera (Marty); nephews and nieces, Robert Romero (Nancy), Joe Romero (Betty), Pete Romero (Margaret), Horacio Romero (Ercilia), Diana Gonzales (Tony), Belinda Lopez (Steve), Christina Salazar, Leroy Ortiz (Angie), Danny Ortiz, Barbara Ortiz, Cathy Garcia, Orlando Gallegos (Sophie), Lillian Walker (Charles), Paul Ortiz, Patricia Rodgers, Sylvia Hernandez (Gabriel), Christella Lopez (Orlando), Bertha Gutierrez (Joe), Dolores and Gloria Quintana; very close friends, Mark and Esther Trujillo, Melisendro and Nina Roybal and Eppie and Susie Salazar and many other great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends; caregiver, Carmen Rivera. Pubic visitation will begin on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque.  Burial will be on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 11:15 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Serving the family as pallbearers, Robert, Joe, and Pete Romero, Leroy and Paul Ortiz, Kenneth Gonzales, honorary pallbearers, Ben Herrera (Lorraine), Robert Herrera (Ida), Marcella Herrera, Craig, Jimmy, Alan Herrera and Judy Garcia.
