JOSE I. MANZANARES, 79, a resident of El Duende, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012 following a short illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Manzanares; parents, Gavino and Lucaria Manzanares; brother-in-law, Daniel Salazar; 3 brothers; 2 sisters and beloved nephew, Jose Luis Martinez. Jose was a hard worker, good provider and caring husband, father and grandfather. He was a US Veteran who served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Manzanares is survived by his children, Esther A. Bailey and husband Robert of Santa Fe and Raymond and Abe Manzanares both of El Duende; grandchildren, Reyna Chavez and companion Jonathan Tsosie, Lucas Apodaca, Nicole Martinez and companion Jose Ortega, Rosanna Medina and husband Andres, Ray Manzanares, Jr. and companion Sonja and Martin Manzanares; 5 great-grandsons; 5 great-granddaughters and numerous other loving relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a wake to follow at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 23, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. also in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial to follow at 9:45 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Abe Manzanares, Andres Medina, Jr., Lucas Apodaca, Gregory Garcia, Jose Lopez, Martin Manzanares, Robert Bailey and Ray Manzanares, Jr. Honorary pallbearers named are, Tony Garcia, Joseph Gino Valdez, Matthew Maestas, Walter Maestas, the Roybal family and Gilbert Archuleta.
