Jose (Gilbert) - Age 79 - La Villita - Martinez

JOSE (GILBERT) MARTINEZ, 79, a resident of La Villita, was carried by Angels to God on Saturday, December 7, 2013. Gilbert was preceded in death by his father, Amado Martinez, Sr.; his mother, Ermelinda Vigil-Martinez; loving nephews, Christopher and Daniel Martinez; sister-in-law, Sofia Diaz and husband Pete; and brothers-in-law, Joe F. Martinez and wife Frances, Juan E. Martinez, Eloy Salazar, and Larry Mudgette. Gilbert is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lorraine; daughters, Carla Lowe and husband Pete, and Myra Martinez and husband Paul; sisters, Josie Mudgette and Aurelia Salazar; brother, Amado Martinez and wife Helen; sister-in-law, Anita Martinez; and brother-in-law, Ross Medina and wife Teresita. Gilbert also leaves behind grandchildren whom he was extremely proud of and all loved their grandpa dearly; Micayela Martinez and companion Jason Krylowicz, Alejandro Martinez, Matthew, Anthony, and Vanessa Lowe; great-granddaughter, Valentina; and numerous nephews and nieces near and dear to his heart. Public visitation will begin on Friday, December 13, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. also at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh, with a burial to follow at the La Villita Catholic Cemetery. Carrying Gilbert to his final resting place will be, Matthew and Anthony Lowe, Micayela and Alejandro Martinez, and Floyd and Franklin Salazar. The family of Jose (Gilbert) Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
