Jose "Eloy" - Age 79 - Ojo Caliente Martinez

Jose “Eloy” Martinez – Age 79 a resident of Ojo Caliente passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents: Simon and Florencia Martinez. Joe was a family man, who loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. He was a man of conviction, determination and generousity. He was well respected in his community. Mr. Martinez was actively involved in community activities such as Mayordomo of his acequia and he was a member of the Ojo Caliente Cattlemen Association. In the past, Jose served in the military in the U.S. Navy, and was involved with the Sheriff’s posse, mounted patrol, and president of the school board for Mesa Vista Public Schools. His life revolved around his family ranching, gardening, hunting, and loved riding the atv to round up his cattle. The mountains were his passion. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Gilia Martinez of Ojo Caliente; children: Debra Lujan and husband Clarence of Pecos, Beverly Ortega and husband Adelaido of Las Vegas, NV, Lisa Martinez of Ojo Caliente, Gary Martinez and companion Myrna of Ojo Caliente, Cynthia Baca and husband Lee of Ojo Caliente, Jolynn, Elisha and Marissa Martinez, of Ojo Caliente, and Eusequio “Juice” Valdez and wife Dorlinda of El Duende; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ojo Caliente. Burial will follow at the Ojo Caliente Community Cemetery. Serving as pallbears will be Lee Baca, Simon “Sammy” Martinez, Amadeo Galvez, George Maestas, Thomas Sandoval, and Tony Chacon. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan Lujan and Jovan Martinez The family of Jose “Eloy” Martinez has entrusted the care of their beloved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
