JOSE BERNABEL CHACON, 79, a resident of Cañon Plaza, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at the Española Valley Nursing and Rehab. He was born May 24, 1934 in Cañon Plaza to Juan Pedro and Adonelia Chacon who proceed him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Deciderio Chacon; sisters-in-law, Rose, Cora and Priscilla Chacon; nephews, Mark and Andrew Chacon; paternal grandparents, Deciderio and Sara Chacon and maternal grandparents, Natividad and Lauriana Varela. Bernie had a few hobbies which included basketball games, fishing and he would like making silletas (chairs) and bancos (benches) and also homemade slingshots. He also loved to make little boxes. In fact, his ashes will rest in one of the little boxes which he made. Bernie has a lot of friends, most of them he made while getting rides to Española. Being the first born, Bernie will be buried on the arms of his father and both will wait for the second coming of Christ, along with his mother and brother. May you rest in peace Hermano! Mr. Chacon is survived by his brothers, Isidoro Chacon of Cañon Plaza, Aristeo Chacon and wife Eileen of Ojo Caliente, Ben Chacon of Chamita, Bon Chacon of Des Moines, Iowa, Timoteo Chacon and wife Candelaria of Cañon Plaza and Thomas Chacon of California; special friends who cared for him while at the Nursing Home, Ron and Rozella Lapointe, Kathy and Alex Logan Lapointe and Mel and Lisa Tafoya. Thank you very much for caring for Bernie. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church 613 Bond St. in Espanola (behind Lota Burger and across the old post office). Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Chacon Ranch Cemetery in Canon Plaza. The family of Jose Bernabel Chacon has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
