JOSE A. “TONY” VIGIL, 83, a resident of El Rito, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Elvira Vigil; parents-in-law, Jose and Aurora Vigil; brothers, Walter and Leo Vigil; sisters, Elena Maestas, Tilde Lopez and Mary Maestas; brother-in-law, Levi Vigil and wife Tillie and sister-in-law, Lovie Vigil. He loved ranching with cattle, fly fishing and was a big fan of football, especially when Dallas was playing. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed working with children from when he was a teacher until he was a counselor. He was proud that he served in the Korean War when he was in the Armed Forces. He lived life to the fullest and was always joking around and singing but was also very strong and firm with high morals. Mr. Vigil is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lillie Vigil; children, Thelma Martinez and husband Steven, Nadine Serrano and husband Maurice and Anthony Vigil and wife Jessica; sisters, Arcelia Baca and Orilia Baca and husband Luis; nephew raised like a son, Wilfred Baca and wife Jane; sisters-in-law, Viola Vigil, Sarah Gonzales and husband Arnold, and Candy Valles and husband Jesse; brothers-in-law, Johnny Vigil and companion Arlene, Gus Vigil and wife Erlinda and Jerry Vigil and wife Judy; grandchildren, Jasmine Serrano, Shauna Martinez, Mercedes Velasquez, Katalina, Natalia, Savanna and Alana Vigil, Renae Herrera, Amanda Martinez and Darla Serrano; great-grandchildren, Leanza Martinez, Johnavon, Amous, Ethan and Analiese Martinez and numerous nieces, nephews, God children, and other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito. Burial to follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Louie Baca, Randy Baca, Steven Martinez, Jr., Victor Martinez, Maurice Serrano, Jr., Marcos Valdez, Joshua Roy Baca and Anthony Vigil, Jr. Honorary pallbearers named are all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
