JOSE AMADEO GALLEGOS “COWBOY JOE”, 87, a resident of El Rancho, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2010 peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Gallegos was a cowboy for the Baca Land & Cattle Company and was also an owner of race horses. He was a barber for over 65 years and retired from the State Police. He was known for the love of his horses, barbering and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Josefina Gallegos, Atanacio and Bernadita Gallegos and Carlota Gallegos; sisters, Flora Quintana and Lilly Wheat and brother, Ronnie Gallegos. Mr. Gallegos is survived by his loving wife, Lia Gallegos; children, Phyllis (Jesus), Ramon (Tracy), Henry (Alicia), Manny (Claudine), Phillip (Megan); brothers, Art Gallegos (Carol), Dan Gallegos, Herman Gallegos and Frank Gallegos; sister, Marlene Lovato (Chris); brother-in-law, Dan E. Quintana; 6 grandsons; 1 granddaughter; 1 great-grandson and many other relatives, loving neighbors and friends. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque. Burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Nick Herrera, Chris Herrera, Raul Gallegos, Pauline Bustos, Carlitos Naranjo and Julian Valdez. Honorary pallbearers named are, Charlie Anaya, Blas Chavez, Juan Chato Lujan, Jake Martinez and Florian Roybal.
