Jose Larry Varoz, a resident of El Rito passed away unexpectedly at the age of 71 at his wife’s side on Thursday, May 5, 2016. Larry was born and raised in El Rito and moved to California in the 1960’s and eventually came back to El Rito in the mid 70’s. He was employed with the Mesa Vista School district for 25 years until retirement in 2004. Larry was married to Pauline Alire Varoz for 48 years. He is survived by two sons, William and wife Lynn from Chamita with daughter’s Miranda and Kamille; Larry Jose and wife Carmella from Albuquerque, with daughter’s Esperanza, Alicia, and son Larry Nicholas; three brothers, Manuel (Tito), Gilbert, and David; his four sisters, Sennie, Betty, Lucy, and Cordie, plus numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Amarante and Magdalena Varoz, and brother, Amarante Jr. Public visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito, with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m at San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the El Rito Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Steve, Pete, and Tony Archuleta, Robert and Jimmy Alire, and Greg Martin.
