Jose Martinez

JOSE D. MARTINEZ, 80, a resident of Chimayo, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2015 of a broken heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estolia Martinez; sons, Daniel and Dennis Martinez; parents, Jose Placedes and Onofre Martinez; brother, Tomas Martinez; sisters, Adelina and Mariquita Martinez and daughter-in-law, Barbara Walock-Martinez. Jose loved his family, they were his priority, especially his wife whom he was devoted to and loved very much. He was hard worker and taught his sons mechanics. He enjoyed working in his garden and taking care of his apple trees. He worked numerous jobs. His last job was a bus driver for the Española Public Schools busing children to school. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do to offer a helping hand. He was well known and respected in his community. He will be dearly missed. Mr. Martinez is survived by his children, Louis R. Martinez and wife Sadie of Rio Chama and Melissa Cathy Martinez and fiancé Marcos of Chimayo; grandchildren, Dennis Martinez, Jr. of CA, Kenny Martinez of Peñasco, Jessica Unzueta and husband Marcus of Ojo Caliente, Louis Martinez, Jr. and companion Nicole of Rio Chama, Jennifer Martinez of Medanales and Megan Martinez of Wisconsin and numerous other relatives and friends. Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the Nuestra Señora de Dolores Cemetery in Chimayo with the following serving as pallbearers, Tony DeAguero, Jerry Archuleta, Jr., Dwayne Buckman, Louis Martinez, Jr., Marcus Unzueta and Placedes Martinez. The family of Jose D. Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
