Jose A. Lucero (Joseph), 86, a resident of Santa Cruz, passed of natural causes on Saturday, July 25, 2015. Jose is preceded in death by his parents, Bonifacio and Estella Lucero; brothers, Manuel “Rex” Lucero and Alfredo Lucero. Jose was a loving father and grandfather. He was a very hardworking man. He cleaned the Holy Cross Cemetery and was very generous with his time and talents. He was so proud of his walls he built around Santa Cruz Plaza. Jose was a landlord for many years, and also was a Magistrate Judge and a Barber and beautician. Jose was also a Veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air force. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. Jose is survived by his son, Joseph Allen Lucero of Las Vegas, NV, daughters, Janet L. Lucero-Romero of Santa Cruz, Sandra Ruiz-Khan and companion Derrick of Santa Cruz and Brenda Salazar of Albuquerque; mother of his children, Corrine Lucero of Santa Cruz; grandchildren, Michelle K. Cruz and companion Nathaniel of Albuquerque, Christiana Ruiz de Lucero and companion Vincent of Santa Cruz, Debbie Ruiz-Ojeda and husband Juan of Santa Cruz, Guadalupe Ruiz and companion  Marco of Santa Cruz, grandsons, Jose Manuel Ruiz and companion, Josette of Española, Jerry Ballinger “Bojo” of Washington State, Israel Ballinger of Española, Adam Ballinger and companion, Pennie Pojoaque, great-granddaughter, Trinity Ballinger of Pojoaque, Ryan Lopez of Colorado; sister, Agnes Boller of Chico CA; sister-in-law, Evelyn Lucero of Rosemead, CA, and numerous other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2015 at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de La Canada, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family of Jose A. Lucero (Joseph) has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 505-747-7477
