Jose A. Garcia (Tony), 72, a resident of Española passed away on Friday, December 16, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Matilda Garcia; brother, Pedro Garcia; wife, Olivia Garcia. In his early years he joined the Army and National Guard. Tony moved to Arizona in the 70’s and enjoyed a career in the mining industry. In 2009 he returned to his hometown of Española. He was a very generous person and would help as many people as he could. Family was his pride and joy along with his dog, “Honey” and many friends that he considered family. You could find him at home watching TV or western movies or eating at local restaurants in Española. He enjoyed life, lived it to the fullest and met our Lord with a smile. Mr. Garcia is survived by his son, Anthony Garcia; companion, Christina Lopez; siblings, Raul Garcia (Rosa), Marina Garcia (Manuel) and Joann Gallegos (Leroy); grandchildren who he raised as his own, Maurica Garcia (Newman), Anthony Garcia (Silvana) and great-granddaughter Makensie Cubillas, who was his pride and joy as well as many nephews and nieces. Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ohkay Owingeh.
