Jonathan M. "Red" Garcia

Jonathan M. Garcia Sr. (Red), 72, was born in Espanola, NM, on April 14, 1951, went to spent eternal life with his heavenly Father on September 21, 2023.  He married the love of his life Jennette M. Garcia in 1972 and lived in Hernandez, NM, until his passing.

Jonathan was the second child and first son of nine children.

After receiving his Espanola High School Diploma in 1969, Jonathan worked for the State Highway Department of New Mexico as a heavy equipment operator and in 1974, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for Johnson Control/Zia Company in Los Alamos, NM, until 1992.

Jonathan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, relative and friend.  He had a strong relationship with God.  He was loved by all and will be terribly missed.

Jonathan is preceded in death by his parents Vidal and Eloisa Garcia; his father and mother-in-law Jose and Eliza Gonzales; brother and sister-in-law Eloy and Melinda Gonzales, Linda and Benny Maestas, and George Herrera.

Jonathan is survived by his wife Jennette Garcia, 4 children Jonathan Garcia Jr. (Helen), Antonio Garcia, Nannette Garcia (fiancé Jason Moss) and Ben Garcia (Crystal).  God blessed Jonathan with 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; brothers Jerry Garcia; sister-in-law Vikki Garcia, Abe Garcia (Carol) and other siblings; sister-in-law Kathy Herrera and brother-in-law Anthony Gonzales (Kathy) and many nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed visiting and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He enjoyed seeing the next generation with his great grandchildren being born and growing up. Jonathan enjoyed spending his free time at the ranch in Tierra Amarilla where he loved working with his horses, cattle, heavy equipment, hunting, fishing and enjoyed driving through God’s country. 

The family would like to thank his brother and Jerry Garcia for giving him life in 1993 when Jonathan was sick with leukemia.  Jonathan was with his family for 30 more years.  Thank you, brother and Uncle Jerry Garcia.

A rosary for Jonathan will be will be held on October 12, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with a mass of christian burial to follow at 11:00 am at The San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez, NM. Burial will be held at a later date.
