Jolene Angel Serna, age 23, born Monday, August 20, 2001, at 6:39 pm, in Los Alamos, NM, to the parents of Joseph Serna and Sharon Espinoza suddenly and tragically passed away on Wednesday, November 07, 2024, at 7:17 am due to inclement weather conditions while on her way to work at Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort.
Jolene was raised in Chimayo New Mexico, where she attended elementary school and played basketball and was a cheerleader for the Chimayo Tigers. She then went on to live in Tierra Amarilla, NM, where she attended Escalante High School and graduated class of 2019. Jolene achieved many accomplishments along with playing volleyball and basketball for the Escalante Lobos.
Jolene’s career in hospitality began at the Chama Trails Inn as a housekeeper during her Junior and Senior years of high school. Jolene then went on to expand her education at NMSU in Las Cruces, NM, where she studied Criminal Justice.
Jolene returned home and continued her career in hospitality at the Villas de Santa Fe where she got first hand experience working with the public from early 2022 through February 2024. Jolene went on to work at Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort. She loved working with people she had the type of spirit and personality that could brighten anyone’s day, Jolene was a very open-spirited young lady who always found the good in everything and everyone. Jolene had a way of feeling the heart and souls of every individual she came in contact with.
Jolene met her True Love David Martinez on instagram on May 07, 2021, where David quotes “SHE HAD THE COJONES (BALLS)” to talk to me first. From that day forward she became his FOREVER LOVE.
Jolene and David went on to began their lives together in Velarde NM with their fur babies Sunshine, Dabbie, Trooper, and Maia Hound. She loved hiking and being outdoors with David and their fur babies and made it a point to always bring home some sort of rock.
Jolene loved her brothers and sisters unconditionally. She loved them with her whole heart always guiding, correcting, and instructing them as she was the oldest sister of the SERNA5. Jolene immediately jumped into the roll of MommaJo and became the support wall of the Serna Home. Life will never be the same for anyone she had a relationship with.
Jolene was preceded in death by paternal grandmother Aurelia Serna, Uncles Jacob Serna, Chris Serna (Virginia). Maternal great-grandmother Benijna T. Espinoza “Mamita”, Uncle Dwayne Vigil.
Jolene is survived by her Father Joseph Serna (Janice), Mother Sharon Espinoza (Jerry), Fiancé David Martinez, siblings Jacob Serna (Genesis), Kaylee, Marissa, Nathaniel, bonus sisters Melissa and Felisha. Maternal grandmother Judy Espinoza, bonus grandparents Phillip Vallejos (Diana), paternal uncles Anthony Serna (Monica), Aunts MaryFrances Gonzales (Benny), Liz Alvarado (Richard), and Eloisa Austin. Maternal Uncle Daniel Vigil (Kim), Aunt Stacy Vigil, bonus Uncle Mark Vallejos (Desirey). Bonus grandparents Belarmino Martinez (Gloria), bonus Uncle Darrell Roybal (Christine). Special to her heart Malachi Vigil and Lorenzo Roybal and many more cousins and friends.

A Public Visitation will begin on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 5:00 pm with a Celebration of LIFE to follow at 6:00 pm in the Chapel of Peace of De Vargas Funeral Home and Crematory (623 N. Railroad Ave, Espanola, NM 87532). Funeral service will be on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 11:00 am at Truth Ministries Calvary Chapel in El Valle de Arroyo Seco (18496 US - 84 Santa Fe, NM 87506).
