Johnny "Juan" Abeyta

Johnny “Juan” Abeyta of Chamisal, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022. He was born July 31, 1945 to David and Rosa Abeyta in Embudo NM.

He is preceded in death by his parents David and Rosa, brother David (Emily)Abeyta, Tio Edilio (Evangelina), Tio Jose Domingo, Tia Luz Martinez, Tio Gilbert (Maria) Herrara, Padrinos Flavio (Sarita) Herrera, Tia Charlotte (Phillip) Roybal, sister in law Laura Abeyta and best friend but like a brother Lorenzo Herrera.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosana Abeyta, children Valerie Visarraga (Herbert), Maxine Abeyta, and John Abeyta Jr. , brother Paul Abeyta; sister Irene Romero (Leroy). Grandchildren Monique Visarraga, Chelsea Romero (Mario), Santana, TJ, David, Xavier, and Elijah Abeyta, 2 great granddaughters, Amarah and McKenna Romero. And several nieces and nephews.

Juan loved many things. He was a pillar for the community and devoted 50 years to the Penasco Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid logger and the local master when it came to chainsaw, lawnmower or weed-eater repairs. Above everything though, he loved his family most.

Juan made a significant impact on every single person he came in contact with. He was a man of the people and will be deeply missed by his, friends, and all who knew him.  

A public visitation will begin on Wednesday September 28, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Penasco, a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of  Christian Burial will take place on Thursday September 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Penasco with burial to follow at the Chamisal upper Cemetery.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Monique Visarraga, Chelsea Romero, Santana Abeyta, T.J. Abeyta, David Abeyta, Xavier Abeyta, Elijah Abeyta, and Mario Romero.
