Johnny A. Herrera, 69, originally from Truchas, NM was born on January 15, 1952 and went to his eternal rest on March 27, 2021. Johnny retired from the Los Alamos National Laboratory with over 35 years of service, and worked in remote handling where he made many lasting friendships and significant contributions to LANL programs. Throughout his life he was a dedicated and passionate horseman, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Johnny was a beloved partner, father, brother, son and friend and will be remembered for his easy smile, generous spirit, his love of horses and the friendships he made with his family in the horse racing industry. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his father, Pantaleon Herrera, sisters Mary, Linda and Ruby, and brothers Jimmy and James. He is survived by his mother, Sabinita Herrera, loving partner Era Sue Jones, daughter Melissa Lopez, and sons John Herrera and Nelson Jones, step-son Dennis Sandoval, and step-daughter Angel Sandoval. He is additionally survived by brother Tony Herrera (Anita), sisters Edna Herrera and Shirley Reynosa, granddaughters Analise and Adriana Lopez, grandson Jerry Padilla, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic church in Chimayo, with a burial to follow at the Truchas Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Nelson Jones, Jerry Padilla, Jimmy Herrera, Joe Romero, Eugene (Gene) Garcia, Randy Branch, Ernesto Gonzales, and Pantaleon Herrera. Honorary pallbearers are John Herrera, Tony Herrera, Alicia Herrera-Trujillo and Analise and Adriana Lopez. The family of Johnny A.
