John Anthony Herrera, age 73, of Flower Mound, Texas, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2011, in Lewisville, Texas. He was born July 26, 1938 in El Guache, New Mexico to Benjamin and Patrocinia Lobato Herrera. John married Sue Garcia on April 9, 1960 in Santa Cruz, New Mexico. He served in both the United States Navy and the United States Army for 24 years. After serving in the military he spent 20 years at GTE where he was stationed in Chicago, Iran and San Angelo. John was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. He was active in the Knights of Columbus. He loved traveling, cruises and the Texas Rangers. He is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Julie Cooper, Lynne Ward and husband Steve, and John Hart; grandchildren, Stephanie, Rebecca and Erika Cooper; sisters Tillie Fernandez, Ruby Costello and Lucy Herrera. Preceded in death by his parents and sisters; Lila Roque, Christina Chavez, and Rita Serna. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6:30 p.m. till 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2011, with rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m. at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment with full military honors will be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
