John Albert Hamko, 86, joined his wife Mary in heaven after losing his battle with leukemia on December 29, 2011.\r\nJohn was a retired union steel worker and was Honorably Discharged from the United States Navy in 1946 and proudly served in World War II in the Pacific. John lived most of his life in Mentor on the Lake, Ohio where he and his wife raised their family. John and Mary moved to Georgia in 2000; where Mary passed away in 2004. John moved to Las Vegas, Nevada with his daughter’s family in 2004 and was a fan of the penny slot machines there. He moved to Los Alamos in 2006.\r\nJohn was a loving father, a strong quiet man, who is survived by his daughter Karen Edmundson and her husband Jim; daughter Kathy Schoonover and her husband Dennis; and by his son Ken and wife Lisa; grandchildren Shanna and Nick Edmundson, Kristyne and Spencer Schoonover, and Dakota and Lauren Hamko and his four legged buddy Aubry.\r\nCremations services will be performed by DeVargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM.
